Shastri is a Bengali-language science fiction action thriller film released in 2024. Directed by Pathikrit Basu and produced by Soham Chakraborty, Nispal Singh, and Bajrang Lal Churiwala, the movie is based on the short story *Dolgobindo Babur Chashmah* by Debarati Mukhopadhyay. The lead role of Parimal "Shastri" Sanyal is played by the legendary Mithun Chakraborty, supported by an ensemble cast including Soham Chakraborty, Debashree Roy, Rajatava Dutta, and others.
The movie was officially announced in October 2023 with a teaser and filming commenced in February 2024 in Kolkata. The film features music and background score composed by Indraadip Dasgupta, with lyrics by Srijato. The screenplay was penned by Aritra Banerjee, while Arnab Bhaumik handled the dialogues. Gopi Bhagat was responsible for the cinematography, and MD Kalam worked on editing.
Shastri marks the 12th collaboration between Mithun Chakraborty and Debashree Roy, following their previous work in *Tiger* (2007), and the 9th film collaboration between Mithun Chakraborty and Rajatava Dutta, who last worked together in *Le Halua Le* (2012). The movie premiered on October 8, 2024, during the Durga Puja festival and received positive reviews from audiences and critics alike.
